Storrs, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team took a 1-0 lead at the start of the second period but gave up three unanswered goals to fall, 3-1, at Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. tonight. With the loss, UConn sees its overall record drop to 7-11-3 overall with a 7-6-1 mark in Atlantic Hockey. Robert Morris jumps to 13-7-2 overall and 8-5-2 in Atlantic Hockey.
A 40-second stretch in the second period was the undoing for Connecticut with Robert Morris coming from down 1-0 to up 2-1. RMU's Adam Brace scored at 5:19 before Nathan Longpre, the league's leading scorer, put home his 11th goal of the season for the game winner at 5:59.
After an action packed first period that featured 36 shots between the two teams, neither squad was able to break open the scoring as Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) made 20 stops with his counterpart, Eric Levine, stopping 16 UConn shots.
It was UConn that took the lead at 1:58 of the second period with the three-leading freshmen scorers combining for the 1-0 lead. Billy Latta (West Chester, Pa.) put home his fifth goal with assists going to Cole Schneider (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Jordan Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Schneider earned his team-leading 14th assist with Sims tallying his seventh helper of the season.
Robert Morris put home its two second-period goals to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final stanza. After two periods, RMU held the edge in shots, 34-29.
The Colonials added an insurance goal at 12:24 of the third period with a strike from James Lyle. The two teams each put nine shots on net in the final period, but the Huskies were unable to muster the comeback in the waning minutes.
