STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team jumped to the top spot in the Northeast Regional rankings in large part to its fine performance last weekend at the UConn Select Invitational.
This weekend, UConn will split up its team members as one group will be traveling to the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania, while the other will be competing at Brown on Saturday. The Huskies are taking their largest contingent of athletes to compete at the premier outdoor track and field competition in the country, which will be held in Philadelphia, Pa. this weekend.
With many athletes competing in the championship sections of the meet at UPenn, UConn should be able to put together its most impressive week of performances this season in preparation for the BIG EAST Championship next weekend.
Thursday's competition will include the 4x100 (1:05 p.m.) and 4x400 (6:05 p.m.) meter relays as well as the DMR Championship of America (5:35 p.m.).
Meghan Cunningham will run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase this evening, while Jasmine Cribb competed this morning in the Easter High Jump event. Also competing in the Eastern events are Whitney Holder and Kristen Brown. That event will take place at 4:00 p.m.
In the field, UConn will send Victoria Flowers, Tynisha McMillian and Emma Crowcroft into competition as All-American Flowers competed in the hammer throw championship early this afternoon. McMillian will compete in the shot put championship at 1:00 p.m., while Crowcroft will look to throw her best mark in the javelin beginning at 2:00 p.m.
