Hello again Husky Softball Fans!!!
This past week was filled with lots of softball, wins, injured wild animals, food and fun. The action started Tuesday as we traveled to Bryant University where Princess Trishy (who has started her own religion called Trishyism) pitched her first shutout of the season. Wednesday's victory was home against Rhode Island. Rhode Island's head coach, Erin Layton, is a former UConn student-athlete and it's always nice to have alumni back in Storrs...although beating her team makes it more difficult asking for a donation! Thursday, we traveled to Bean Town where we faced Boston University. After we got over the sadness of a cute little bird flying into the batting cage and injuring itself, Julie Towers started the game off with a lead-off homerun and we continued to score nine more runs throughout the game. The final score was 10-9...way to go girls...and thanks for the stress and ulcers too!!! Saturday and Sunday we were at Rutgers where it was a homerun fest with homeruns by Julie Towers, Jess Arremony, Justyne Roy, and Marissa Guches - who tallied three leading us to take two of three games from the Scarlet Knights.
As with most teams (I hope), the real fun was had on the bus. Being that we've completed season 1 of Glee (Season 2 premiered last night on FOX :) ), we're now on The O.C. I definitely like Glee better than all of The O.C.'s teenage drama. But after watching O.C episodes back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back, we decided to shut it down and play a game. What's more fun than someone putting on noise-reduction head phones, blasting a favorite song in those headphones, and belting out the lyrics as if she was performing on stage in front of 60 thousand screaming fans??? Here at the University of Connecticut, we believe in making dreams come true. Although Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen Degeneres, Randy Jackson, and Ryan Seacrest were unable to make this bus trip, we were still able to judge the spectacle. Standing ovations were received by Jen Ward and Kim Silva while boos and hisses were received by Amy DeLuca and Julie Towers. Don't worry Danielle DelPonte, you're still the reigning Queen with your rendition of It's Raining Men.
A special thank you goes out to Patty McDermott for having all of us over for dinner Saturday night. Dinner was SPECTACULAR...and that's coming from an Italian. Patty, if you find a meatball in a ziplock baggie in your fridge, it's MINE!!! Clearly I forgot it. :( For the record, Jen Ward stinks at poker (Dana Hughes stinks more) and Brittany Duclos is a big fat cheater. PS...based on the pictures I saw, Jessica McDermott looks exactly the same as when she was 5 years old. All in all, a memorable week and we'd like to say thank you again to all our fans for your continued support. Check back next week for more stories and more adventures!!!
Ending this blog on a serious note, we would like to congratulate 1993 graduate and former two-time All-American, Janna Venice-Blais for being awarded Administrator of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
