Men's Soccer to Face Cincinnati on Monday

QUARTERFINAL ROUND MATCH UP
After defeating No. 6(R) DePaul 2-0 in its first round match-up, UConn will face Cincinnati in the BIG EAST quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. The Huskies enter the contest with a 12-2-4 overall record, while Cincinnati is 7-4-6 on the year and ranked the No. 2 seed in the Red Division. The winner of Monday's contest will advance to the semifinal round to play Providence on Friday, Nov. 12 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.

UCONN IN BIG EAST TOURNAMENT PLAY
The Huskies are 28-16-3 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament games dating back to the 1982 season. Before their win on Friday, the Huskies' last tournament win came in the 2007 final against Notre Dame as UConn blanked the second-seeded Irish 2-0 in Storrs, Conn. UConn earned its seventh BIG EAST Tournament title with the victory.
UConn has never faced Cincinnati in postseason play.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE HUSKIES
The Huskies are currently led by Tony Cascio who has a team-high 26 points on a team-best 10 goals along with six assists. Cascio has registered two games this year with two or more goals and has recorded four game-winners. Carlos Alvarez has a team-high 14 assists and 22 points along with four goals. He leads the BIG EAST in helpers this season. Stephane Diop has seven goals on the year and one assist for 15 points. UConn is outscoring its opponents 38-5 on the year.
Josh Ford picked up his 54th career victory on Friday to break the Huskies' all-time wins record. This season, Ford has 54 saves and has registered 10 shutouts along with 12 wins. He also has 50 career shutouts for the Huskies.
LAST TIME OUT
UConn blanked DePaul 2-0 on Friday night to eliminate the Blue Demons from postseason play as Josh Ford earned his 54th career victory and his 50th career shutout. With the victory, head coach Ray Reid also earned his 200th win while at Connecticut. After an own goal by DePaul put the Huskies on top 1-0, Tony Cascio scored his 10th goal of the year to extend the Huskies' lead to 2-0. UConn outshot the Blue Demons 16-8 on the night, including a 10-3 clip in the first half.
SHUTTING THE DOOR ON OPPONENTS
UConn has outscored its opponents 38-5 on the year, including a 15-2 clip in BIG EAST Conference play during the regular season. UConn has blanked its opponents 12 times this season, while senior goalkeeper Josh Ford has earned 10 shutouts on the year.
LENDING A HELPING HAND
Carlos Alvarez leads the BIG EAST Conference with 14 assists. Last season, Alvarez led the conference with 11 en route to being named the 2009 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year.
FORD IN THE RECORD BOOK
Josh Ford has developed into one of UConn's top goalkeepers as he ranks at the top amongst all-time Huskies in consecutive starts (83) and shutouts (50), while he is in first in wins with 54 in his career. With 268 career saves, Ford ranks seventh among all-time save leaders at UConn.
SERIES INFORMATION
Cincinnati leads the all-time series with the Huskies 2-1-0 dating back to 1999. In their last meeting, UConn defeated the Bearcats 2-1 in Storrs, Conn. Prior to that contest, the two teams' last meeting was on Sept. 16, 2005 as the Huskies lost 2-0 on the road. UConn has never played Cincinnati in postseason action.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati was named the second seed of the Red Division in the 2010 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship and earned a bye in first round action. With a 7-4-6 overall record, the Bearcats are 5-1-3 at home this season and have not lost at home since their 3-1 loss to No. 1 Louisville on Oct. 13. Cincinnati is led by Matt Bahner, who is the only Bearcat with double-digit points, as he has tallied 19 on the year on seven goals and five assists, both of which are program highs. Matt Williams has nine shutouts for the Bearcats as he has allowed just 11 goals in net. He posts a .60 GAA and has registered 60 saves on the year for a .845 save-percentage.
THE Ray Reid FILE
Ray Reid enters his 14th year as the head coach of the UConn men's soccer program as he boasts a 200-70-32 record at UConn. In his career, Reid is 346-87-47 in his 22nd overall year as a head coach. Reid's teams at UConn have garnered seven BIG EAST Regular Season titles, four BIG EAST Tournament titles, and the 2000 NCAA National Championship.
