Over the past six years, we have been blessed by outstanding young ladies who `live the life' that has allowed us to achieve national level goals. This year's leaders continue that great tradition. Athletic prowess is certainly evident along with academic success among these three. As individuals, they present exceptional character that sets the tone for our team." The three student-athletes have combined to lead UConn to a No. 14 National ranking during the indoor campaign. They have been a part of two BIG EAST Titles, six ECAC Titles and three New England Championships. As a group, the captains have accumulated one All-America Honor, 13 BIG EAST Titles, 10 UConn records and a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honor.
Trisha-Ann Hawthorne heads a trio of outstanding student-athletes leading the Huskies this season. Hawthorne has earned success since she first stepped on campus. Last season, Hawthorne was named MVP of the both the indoor and outdoor BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. She placed seventh in the 100m NCAA Finals and garnered the first Outdoor Track All-American Honor in the history of UConn women's track and field. (The Huskies have earned several All-America Honors in field events).
Hawthorne had a successful National campaign last year as well, competing with Jamaica. She anchored the Jamaican relay team to a silver-medal finish in the 4x100 at the NACAC Under-23 Championships. As an English major, she was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
"Trisha is a tremendous athlete. She has always led by example. Her work ethic is unbelievable. Now she's become a great vocal leader for the team as well. She's probably the best example of a role model that I've ever seen from a college standpoint. She's the complete package. A great athlete, a great leader and a great student," said Associate Head Coach Clive Terrelonge.
Anderson, the lone junior captain, will look to have her most successful season yet as a Husky in 2011. Anderson previously qualified for the New England Championships in the 200m during the 2009 campaign. A nursing major, Anderson has been a vocal leader for the Huskies over the past two seasons.

"Cornieta is a great young lady that is still developing as an athlete. She's probably the most amazing teammate and motivator we have at UConn. You won't find anyone that works harder than her. She's continued to develop her leadership skills at a high level for us," added Terrelonge.
McMillian has been a force for UConn on the throwing circuit since she came to Storrs. She currently holds the UConn record in both the indoor and outdoor shot put. She claimed the 2009 BIG EAST Indoor Championship in the shot put, setting the UConn and the BIG EAST record with a toss of 16.69 meters (54' 9.25").
She was crowned ECAC Outdoor Champion in 2008 and ECAC Indoor Champion in 2010. McMillian has also claimed the shot put title at the New England Championships in 2009 and 2010. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2007 and 2008.
"Tynisha is another tremendous athlete that is still developing. She's still developing as a motivator to her teammates as well. But she's a role model to everyone on the team and will certainly play a major role in our success throughout the year" added Terrelonge.
The Huskies open the season when they travel to New York, N.Y. to compete at the Armory Invitational on January 15, 2011.
