Murray Holds Strong In BIG EAST Rankings
After posting five service aces this weekend, Rebecca Murray continues to lead the BIG EAST in service aces per set with 0.60. Murray has recorded an ace in all but one match this season and has also recorded one in 11 consecutive matches, the longest streak of her Husky career.
...And Continues To Hold National Ranking
Rebecca Murray's 0.60 service aces per set also rank her ninth nationally, according to the NCAA statistics which were released Monday (10/4). Murray is one of just four BIG EAST players to be ranked in the top-50, joining Villanova's Alyssa Anderson (15th), St. John's Brunna Kronbauer (32nd) and West Virginia's Michelle Kopecky (43rd).
Huskies Rank 10th Nationally...Again
For the second straight week the Huskies rank second in the BIG EAST and 10th nationally in service aces per set, posting 90 aces (1.95 saps) this season. As a team, UConn has tallied at least two service aces in each contest this year, including double-digit aces against Cornell (15) and Hartford (10). The Huskies are on their way to giving head coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien her fourth season in which UConn has tallied an ace in all of its matches (06, 08, 09).
Murray Posts Season-High
With a 16-kill performance against Cincinnati last Sunday, Rebecca Murray set a new team-high and season-high in the category. Murray has now tallied 15 or more kills in 11 matches throughout her career, including 19 against St. Mary's (Calif.) last season. She leads the team with 124 kills this season and is one of five Huskies to post double-digit kills in a match this year (Cayla Broadwater, Jordan Kirk, Morgan Freeman & Mattison Quayle).
Kirk Close Behind
Jordan Kirk got on an offensive roll last Sunday against Cincinnati, tying her season-high with 14 kills and setting a season-high with a .385 hitting percentage. The match marked her third double-digit kill effort of the season and the 30th of her career. Kirk has posted 14 or more kills 12 times and has 666 kills over her career.
Maving In The BIG EAST
For the fifth consecutive week Kelsey Maving is in the top-two in digs per set in the BIG EAST, recording 239 digs this season, for a 5.09 average. Maving is behind Villanova's Kim Maroon (5.37). Maving has led the Huskies every match except one in the dig category, posting a season-high 26 against Duquesne (9/11).
Murray 1,000 Kill Countdown
Rebecca Murray needs just 11 more kills to reach the 1,000 kill mark for her career. So far this season she is averaging 2.64 kills per set, the highest on the team, and had a season-high 16 kills against Cincinnati (10/3) last weekend. She is also 17 kills from taking over 10th place on the UConn career record list which is currently held by Heather Sokol (1993-96, 1,005 K). Murray is just one of three current Huskies to have 500 or more kills in their careers, joining Lauren Lamberti (565) and Jordan Kirk (666).
...And Closing In On 500 Digs
With 119 digs this season, the second highest total on the team, Rebecca Murray is also closing in on 500 digs for her career. Murray has recorded 478 digs throughout her career, posting at least 100 digs every season except her sophomore campaign. She is one of five current Huskies to tally 100 digs in a season, joining Keeley Abram, Kelsey Maving, Mattison Quayle and Angela Roidt.
