Fresh off their first BIG EAST victory of the season, the Huskies will take to the road for a pair of matches this weekend at DePaul and Notre Dame. UConn will face the Blue Demons on Saturday (Oct. 30) at 3:00 p.m. EST and will then face the Fighting Irish on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 2:00 p.m.
First BIG EAST Victory
The 3-0 victory over Rutgers last weekend marked the first BIG EAST win for the Huskies this season and also the first win since September 4 when UConn defeated Brown, 3-0. Sunday's victory marked the 19th against the Scarlet Knights and UConn now holds a 51-25 advantage in sets won.
Murray Continues To Climb Record Book
Rebecca Murray continues to improve on her career kills ranking, moving into eighth with 1,054 total kills after posting 34 against Seton Hall and Rutgers. Murray leads the team with 189 kills this season and is one of three Huskies to record at least 100 kills on the year (Jordan Kirk & Morgan Freeman). Murray also broke the 500 dig mark last weekend, combining for 26 and now was 525 career digs.
...And Earns BIG EAST Honor Roll
Following her career-high weekend, Rebecca Murray was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the first Husky to earn the accolade this season. Murray averaged 4.25 kills and 3.25 digs over the weekend along with setting a career-high of 21 kills against Seton Hall (Oct. 22). She also extended her service ace streak to 16-matches with one against the Pirates and three against the Scarlet Knights.
Aces Wild
With a combined 16 service aces over the weekend the Huskies now have 124 on the season and 912 under head coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien. The 124 aces this season ranks UConn second in the BIG EAST with 1.82 aces per set and 13th nationally. As a team, UConn has posted at least five aces in 16 matches this season, including 15 against Cornell (9/17/10), the most by a UConn team since September 6, 2008 when the Huskies tallied 18 against Buffalo.
Tops In The BIG EAST
The duo of Rebecca Murray and Kelsey Maving are the only Huskies to rank in the BIG EAST overall statistics. Murray leads the BIG EAST with 0.56 aces per set and ranks ninth nationally with 38 total aces this season, while Maving ranks third with 4.96 digs per set.
...Back-To-Back For Maving
Last weekend, Kelsey Maving recorded her sixth and seventh 20+ dig matches of the season, tying her season-high with 26 digs against Seton Hall and posting 21 against Rutgers. Maving now has 337 digs on the season and has led the Huskies in the category during all but two matches this season.
Freeman Cracks BIG EAST Top-10
For the third time this season, freshman Morgan Freeman ranks in the top-10 in the BIG EAST with 1.03 blocks per set during conference matches only. Freeman's 31 total blocks against BIG EAST opponents puts her ninth in the standings, after posting eight against Seton Hall (10/22) and seven against Rutgers (10/24). She has tallied at least one block in all but four matches this season, with a high of nine against Brown (9/4).
...And Reaches 100 Kill Mark
With nine kills against Seton Hall last weekend, Morgan Freeman reached the 100 kill mark for the season. Freeman is the third Husky to reach 100 kills this year along with Jordan Kirk (154) and Rebecca Murray (189). She has posted at least five kills in 11 matches this season, with a career-high of 13 against New Hampshire (Sept. 24).
