Storrs, Conn. - The UConn women's cross country squad sent seven student-athletes to compete at the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn. and dominated the competition. The Huskies won the team title, placing five runners in the top-20, earning 50 points. Junior Christine Vogel (Glastonbury, Conn.) was Connecticut's top finisher. She placed second, finishing the 3K course in 10:10.
Connecticut rested its top-nine athletes for the BIG EAST Championships next weekend in Syracuse, N.Y. and still came away with a team victory. Vogel led the way with her second-place finish.
Sophomore Maho Kobayashi (Woodstock, Conn.) placed ninth, crossing the line at 10:29. Sophomore Allison Cooper (Portland, Conn.) and freshman Cassondra Hunter (Preston, Conn.) weren't far behind in 11th and 12th, respectively. Both runners finished in 10:30.
Sophomore Jeanne Theleen (Southbury, Conn.) closed out the scoring for Connecticut. She placed 16th with a time of 10:40.
UConn will compete next at the BIG EAST Championships in Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville, N.Y. hosted by Syracuse University on Saturday, October 30. The Huskies will look to culminate a successful season in which UConn placed second at the New England Championships on October 9.
