Dinnan Leads UConn at Bryant Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Courtney Dinnan led the University of Connecticut women's cross country team with a first place finish at the Bryant University Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Dinnan finished the 5,000-meter run with a winning time of 19:06.97, beating out 87 other runners. Five of her teammates followed, finishing in the top-10, with senior captain Sara Leslie taking third place with a time of 19:48.85.
Freshman Kimberly Moran finished with a time of 19:49.80 for fifth place, while freshman Allison Cooper (20:05.42), sophomore Christine Vogel (20:07.91) and freshman Shauna McNiff (20:10.02) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth place, respectively.
"We were overall very pleased with the day," said distance coach Andrea Grove-McDonough. "The team ran with some great intensity and worked well together. They did everything we expected them to do.
"It was a dominating performance up front and a good indication at this early point of the season that we are headed in the right direction." added McDonough.
The Huskies will compete next at the Fairfield Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
