PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior middle hitter Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) of the University of Connecticut volleyball team earned her first BIG EAST weekly accolade of the season with a spot on the honor roll. Murray led the team in kills, hitting-percentage and blocks.
She recorded back-to-back double digit kills at South Florida and at Georgetown over the weekend and has tallied double figures in the kill column in three of four BIG EAST matches this season. She led the team with a 3.38 kill per set average while also leading the team in hitting-percentage (.328).
Murray finished the weekend with eight total blocks as she continues to lead the team this season with 64. She has recorded 18 solo blocks just two shy of her total in 2008.
The spot on the honor roll marks the third time in her career that Murray has been acknowledged by the conference after being named the Freshman of the Week twice in 2007.
This is the second-consecutive week that UConn has earned recognition from the conference after freshman Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) pulled in her first-ever Freshman of the Week award on Sept.28.
Volleyball (10-9, 3-1) continues the season with a pair of games at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion this weekend. The Huskies first host Marquette on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking the Syracuse Orange at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
