Men's Tennis Battles To 4-3 Win Over Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (February 23, 2008) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team captured a 4-3 win over Lehigh Saturday at the Lewis Tennis Center. Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) were double victors, capturing both their respective doubles and singles matches.
The Huskies are now 1-2 on the season.
"This was a great win today against a tough Patriot League team," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "We started out strong with very solid doubles and earned the first point of the match. We then lost the top three singles contests in very tough matches. With the team score now 1-3, the team rallied back and won the final three matches. Seniors Christian Malerba and Aaron Ribchinsky led the tremendous comeback effort win."
After dropping thre first doubles match, UConn came back to take the nos. 2 and three with wins by Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Malerba and the dup of Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) and Marcus.
With the early lead, the Huskies then faltered in the top three flights of singles play to a tough group of Lehigh players. Malerba started the comeback at no. 4, defeating John Bolcar in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5. Marcus then battled Arnaldo Pachecco to a 6-4, 7-5, win in the fifth flight, followed by Ribchinsky taking the no. 6 flight, 7-5, 6-3, over Chris Collins.
The UConn men's tennis team returns to action Saturday, Mar. 1 at DePaul.
