Two UConn Volleyball Players Acknowledged by the BIG EAST

STORRS, Conn. - For the fifth time this season, Annie Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.) earned BIG EAST Freshman Player of the Week honors while for the second-consecutive week Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) earned a spot on the conference honor roll.
The Huskies (16-7, 5-3) went 2-0 last week with 3-1 wins at Pittsburgh (Oct. 24) and at West Virginia (Oct. 26) earning two-straight conference wins for the second time this season.
Luhrsen led UConn with seven service aces, including five against the Mountaineers. She averaged just over 10 assists per set (10.12) dishing off 38 at Pittsburgh and 43 at West Virginia. Luhrsen posted her sixth double-digit dig effort with 12 at Pittsburgh and was second on the team in digs (18) last week.
She leads the team with 861 assists this season while also contributing 116 kills. Luhrsen has totaled 47 service aces, averaging 0.55 per set. She is second on the team with 171 digs (1.99/set).
Mickens contributed a team-best kill total in each of the last four matches, including a 20 kill performance at Pittsburgh. She was second on the team in hitting percentage (.371) and was the lone Husky player to total more than 20 kills for the week.
She leads the Huskies with 245 kills with 105 of which coming against BIG EAST opponents and is the only member of the squad to score greater than 100 points against conference opponents this season.
UConn returns to BIG EAST volleyball action on Friday with an 8 p.m. match against Seton Hall. The first 100 fans to arrive at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion will receive pizza.
