Mickens Garners BIG EAST Honor Roll Spot This Week

STORRS, Conn. - Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) led the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team (14-7, 3-3) in kills in both of its game last week. Mickens had 14 kills in the Huskies' 3-0 win over Sacred Heart and matched her career-high kill mark (20) at St. John's on Oct. 18. For her efforts, Mickens earned a spot on the BIG EAST honor roll for the first time in her career as announced by the conference on Monday.
Against the Pioneers, Mickens did not commit a single error and finished the match with her best hitting-percentage of her career (.737). She finished the week with a team-best .492 hitting-percentage.
UConn went 1-1 last week, winning its ninth match of the season by a 3-0 score. The Huskies defeated the Pioneers (Oct. 15) at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion with a trio of double-digit kill efforts. Mickens led the offense with 14, while Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) and Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) each had 10 kills.
Mickens contributed 20 kills at St. John's in UConn's 3-2 loss to the defending BIG EAST Tournament champions on Oct. 19. She had recorded 20 kills once before this season for a career-high at Cleveland State (Aug. 28).
Volleyball resumes play on Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Pittsburgh (14-8). The Panthers currently hold first place in BIG EAST standings with a 6-1 record.
