Volleyball Hosts Sacred Heart in Non-Conference Action on Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. - On Wednesday, the University of Connecticut women's volleyball team (13-6, 3-2) hosts Sacred Heart for a non-conference match at 7 p.m. at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. This is the first meeting for the two programs in volleyball.
The Huskies swept Rutgers in BIG EAST action on Sunday, Oct. 12, improving to 3-2 in conference play. Behind a team-best kill effort from Chauntay Mickens (Germantown, Md.) with 11, UConn defeated the Scarlet Knights 3-0, recording their second three-set victory over a conference opponent this season and first at home since Sept. 17 (Fairfield). Annie Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 12 digs.
Prior to dropping its last two matches, Sacred Heart (12-6) posted a seven-match winning streak. The Pioneers have suffered just one away loss this season at Iona on Oct. 9. Maile Hertherington leads Sacred Heart with 211 kills this season (3.58/s) while Brittany Best (166) and Ashlyn Trible (2.70/s) are also consistent contributors to the offense.
Jessica Colberg has recorded a team-best 33 service aces while three other Pioneers have recorded 20 or more this season. Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek has 24, Hetherington has 27 and Best rounds out the group with 22.
The three-match homestand comes to a close for the Huskies with the 7 p.m. match on Wednesday. The first 100 fans to arrive at Gampel Pavilion will receive an UConn Key Chain.
UConn returns to the road and BIG EAST play with a 2 p.m. match at defending conference tournament champion St. John's on Saturday.
