Men's Tennis Opens Play At UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. (September 28, 2007) - The UConn Invitational started Friday with two flights of doubles competition between the University of Connecticut men's tennis team and squads from nine other schools.
In #1 doubles, Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) defeated Fairfield, 8-4, before falling to Stony Brook, 8-5, in the quarterfinals. On the other side of the Flight 1 bracket, Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) and Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) also advanced to the quarters, eventually dropping an 8-6 match to Sacred Heart.
Two UConn pairs also participated in Flight 2 doubles. Mike Bobitski (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivorytown, Conn.) and Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) each fell in the first round of their respective brackets.
Competition resumes Saturday morning with singles play.
