Men's Tennis Edged By Fairfield 4-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 5, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Fairfield on in a grueling four-hour match Thursday night at Tennis Central in New Haven, Conn.
The Huskies began the match by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3. Sophomore Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) defeated Glen Gannon and Balazs Szikla 8-5 at No. 2 while junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) and freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) teamed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 3 over Zachary Morrison and Ryan Berthod.
UConn was able to take two singles matches at No. 5 and 6. Malerba took down Chip Palumbo 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 5. Cook was a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 winner at No. 6 over Gannon.
The Huskies will return home for a match with Boston University on Tuesday, April 10 with first serve set for 3 p.m.
