Women's Track Finishes First Day at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 26, 2007) - Selected athletes from the University of Connecticut women's track and field team began competition at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa.
The 4x100m relay team placed second in its heat with a time of 45.68. Sophomores Alyssa Evering (Bel Air, Md.), Jessi Foreman (Wayland, Mass.), Monique Hodges (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Phylicia George (Markham, Ont.) combined for the time that sends them to the ECAC Finals tomorrow afternoon.
Junior Tamara Highsmith (East Haven, Conn.) won her heat in the 400m hurdles and set a new season-best time of 1:00.97.
The 4x400m relay team comprised of Evering, Highsmith, George and junior Kaitlyn Whitlock (Bethel, Conn.) finished the heat with a time of 3:49.17.
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at the Penn Relays. Freshman Carin Knight (New Rochelle, N.Y.) will take part in the high jump while Highsmith will compete in the triple jump. The 4x100m relay team will be in the ECAC Finals while the 4x200m relay team will begin their heats.
