Swimming and Diving's Jones Honored with Kinsman Award
STORRS, Conn. (April 14, 2007) - Senior swimmer Tristan Jones (Canberra, Australia) received the Kinsman Award, the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes’ highest award, at the CPIA annual National Student-Athlete Day banquet April 6.
The Kinsman Award recognizes one male and one female UConn student-athlete each year for academic and athletic achievement and improvement, leadership, service, perseverance, and character.
Jones as an actuarial science major has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.94, including three 4.0 semesters. He is a COSIDA First Team Academic All-American, this year’s UConn Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and a UConn Babbidge Scholar- having posted two 4.0 semesters in a calendar year. Jones has also been recognized as a New England and Actuarial Science Scholar.
Jones holds school records in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley and was a four year Big East Championships finalist in those events. He ranks in the top 10 all-time at UConn in seven individual events and is a member of all five UConn relay record-setting teams.
He is U.S. Open Championships finalist, Jones competed in the Australian Olympic Trials. He has previously been awarded the Outstanding Freshman, Most Improved and Outstanding Swimmer Awards in swimming.
Jones co-captained this year’s men’s swimming and & diving team and has served as a learning group leader since the program was initiated three years ago. One of only four UConn student-athletes nominated last year to the NCAA Leadership Conference, Jones will be honored soon at the annual UConn Club Banquet as an Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete. He will begin work as an actuary this fall in CIGNA’s Philadelphia office.
