Men's Tennis Drops Close Match To Amherst 4-3

STORRS, Conn. (March 28, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team played tough but came up just short against Amherst falling 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Connecticut Tennis Courts.
The Huskies took the doubles point with key wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Freshman Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) and sophomore Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) defeated Zach Lerner and Geoff Schwartz 8-2 while freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) handed Mike Mintz and Karti Subramanian an 8-2 loss at No. 3.Goldstein won his second match of the day at No. 2 singles with a victory over Mintz 6-3, 6-2. Cook was also a multiple winner as he easily defeated Ben Krause at No. 6 6-0, 6-1.
UConn returns to the courts on Friday afternoon with a home match against Monmouth at 3 p.m.
