Swimming and Diving Hosts Parents' Day Dual Meet
Multiple event winners pace the Huskies
STORRS,Conn. (November 3, 2007) - The University of Connecticut women's swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut State University by a score of 205 to 95 on Saturday afternoon at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. The women fell to Rutgers University by a score of 156 to 142. The men and women also swam against Brown University but that portion of the meet was not scored.
The Huskies were led by multiple event winners Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland), Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.), Stephen Fereirra (Madison, Conn.), Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and Adrian Astiz (Bethesda, Md.).
Shelps won the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. In the 100 backstroke she clocked in at 58.34, in the 200 IM she hit the wall with a time of 2:06.15. Marianni swept both the one and three-meter dive events. In the one-meter she scored a total of 236.90, in the three-meter she had a score of 245.70.
For the men, Sobek took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. In the 100 breaststroke he timed in at 58.50. For the 200 breaststroke he recorded a time of 2:06.14. Astiz bested everyone in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly. In the 200 IM he achieved a time of 1:55.64. For the 200 butterfly he timed in at 1:54.37. Fereirra won both the one and three-meter dive events. On the one-meter board he scored 254.95. On the three-meter board he scored 264.10.
Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) won the top spot in the 100 backstroke. He clocked in with a time of 52.31.
The Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams return action on Saturday, November 10 when they travel to Army. The meet is set for 1 p.m.
