Men's Tennis Finishes Day One At Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (October 5, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team completed its first day of competition at the Bucknell Invitational Friday with five wins in round one of singles play.
Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) won their matches in flights 3 and 4, respectively. Michaels rallied from a 6-7 (4) loss in the first set to win the match, 6-4, (12-10), while Marcus also came from behind to win his match, 4-6, 6-3, (14-12).
Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.), Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivorytown, Conn.) and Mike Bobitski (Fort Meyers, Fla.) also won their respective matches, taking flights 6-8. Cook defeated NJIT's Tim Wieman, 6-1, 6-1, in #6 singles followed by Ribchinsky in the #7 spot with his win over Quinnipiac's Vinny Corvari by an identicle score.
Bobitski wrapped up the day by shutting out his opponent, Doug Zytko from NJIT, by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Joe Goldstein (Tuscon, Ariz.) and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) dropped their matches at Flights 1 and 2, respectively. Goldstein fell 6-4, 6-4, to Steve Erickson from NJIT, while Schueler was defeated Quinnipiac's Brian Mikkelson, 6-1, 6-3.
The Huskies will return to action tomorrow at the Bucknell Invitational.
