Men's Tennis Defeats Salve Regina, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. (October 3, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team won its third dual meet of the season, defeating Salve Regina 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts.
 
The Huskies captured all three doubles matches and five-of-six singles matches.
 
"We played some very solid doubles today," said head coach Glenn Marshall. "That momentum carried us into our singles matches and we played well in all positions."
 
Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.)/Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) started things off at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win over Robbie Norton and Steve Masso. Schueler went on to win his his No. 2 singles match in a long three-set contest, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
 
In Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, both Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) /Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.)/Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) defeated their respective Salve Regina opponents by an 8-1 margin.
 
UConn won singles flights 3-6 in a resounding fashion. Michaels took down Andrew Martin, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, followed by Marcus at No. 4 and a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
 
Malerba shut down his opponent in flight 5, defeating Steve Masso, 6-0, 6-0 and then Cook wrapped up the day with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Chris Tolo in the six spot.
 
The Huskies return to action at the Bucknell Invitational, Oct. 5-7.
