Men's Cross Country Places Ninth at BIG EAST Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (October 27, 2007) - Competing against some of the top ranked cross country teams in the east, the University of Connecticut placed ninth in the BIG EAST Championship Saturday with 240 points. The race was held at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. Will Sanders (Wethersfield, Conn.) was the top Husky finisher. He finished 21st with a time of 24:29.40.
UConn was able to place four other runners in the top 75. Will Melofchik (Wayside, N.J.) was 28th with a time of 24:39.80. David McKay (Marlborough, Conn.) was 56th with a time of 25:33.70. Colin Meyers (W. Senica, N.Y.) finished 62nd with a time of 25:54.90. Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.)rounded out the Husky scorers with a 73rd place finish in a time of 26:21.00.
The host Louisville Cardinals won the BIG EAST Championship with a total of 55 points. Georgetown was second with 60 points, and Providence was third with 74 points.
Connecticut returns to action when they compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional on November 10. That race will be held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The Huskies have already once competed in Franklin Park, when they finished in 14th place in the New England Championships on October 6.
