Men's Tennis Cruises Past Siena 5-2

STORRS, Conn. (October 2, 2007) - Led by senior captain Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.), the University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated Siena, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. UConn is now 2-0 in dual match play this fall.
Malerba shut down his singles opponent, Robert Cooperman, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 5 match and then partnered with Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) for the 8-5 doubles win.
The Huskies were victorious in all three doubles matches played. Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.)and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) won 9-7 at No.1 while Tom Cook (Pitsford, N.Y.) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) took the No. 3 match, 8-4.
In singles action, Michaels found success at No.3 over Stefen Putyera, winning 7-5, 6-2. Marcus took down his opponent, Kevin Gioia, by the same score at No. 4 and Cook defeated Shawn Conroy in the No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-0.
At No.1, Goldstein fell to Jeremy Deuel in a three-set match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Schueler lost a 6-4, 6-1 match at No.2
