Men's Tennis Finishes Undefeated Fall Dual Season

STORRS, Conn. (October 16, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated Sacred Heart, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the UConn Tennis Courts. With the win, the Huskies wrap up their fall season with a 4-0 record in dual match play.
UConn swept singles flights 3-6 and all three doubles matches on the day.
"It's been an outstanding team win to finish out the fall season 4-0," said head coach Glenn Marshall. "Our team has really shown a tremendous improvement this year in the dual matches, as well as our fall tournament results. I am very pleased with their efforts."
Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) led the way in #3 singles, defeating Chris Ujkic, 6-1, 6-2, before partnering with Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) to dominate the #2 doubles, 8-2. Malerba, too, won his singles match, besting Nick Mazzarese in three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7, in the #5 spot.
Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) also came way with victories in both singles and doubles action. Marcus took Flight 4, 6-2, 6-2, over Cole Conrad, while Cook defeated Chris McDonnell, 6-3, 6-4, at #6. In doubles, the pair bested Ujkic/Chris McDonnell by an 8-5 margin.
In other doubles action, Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.)/Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) won 8-5 at #1.
UConn completes its fall schedule Oct. 18-23, at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Princeton.
