Men's Tennis Finishes Weekend Of Competition At Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. (October 14, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Quinnipiac Invitational Sunday. The invitational consisted of four brackets of singles play and two of doubles, as well as three singles consolation rounds and two doubles consolation rounds.
Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) led the way for UConn, playing through opposite sides of the C Bracket to the championship round with a 3-0 record. They were declared co-winners of the bracket and did not play in the final.
Mike Bobitski (Fort Meyers, Fla.) also had a a good outing in singles play. He went 2-1 through the D Bracket, eventually falling in the quarterfinals to Rhode Island's James McGuire (6-2, 6-1).
In doubles, Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.)/Joe Goldstein (Tuscon, Ariz.) went 2-1 in the A Doubles bracket, beating teams from Bucknell and Boston University before falling to a pair from Quinnipiac in the quarterfinals.
The Huskies return to action Tuesday, Oct. 16, with a dual match against Sacred Heart in Storrs. The match was rescheduled from Oct. 10 due to inclement weather in the area.
