Men's Tennis Cruises Past Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (September 12, 2006) - By a score of 5-2, the University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated Hartford on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Hartford, Conn.
The Huskies were winners of both doubles matches played. Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.)/Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) won 9-7 at No.1 while Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.)/Joe Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) came up with a win at No.2, 8-3. No match was played at No.3.
In singles action, Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) found success at No.3 over Sartak Goudar, winning 6-0, 6-2. Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) swept Brian Reilly 6-0, 6-1 at No.4 while Jeff Klar (Marietta, Ga.) won at No.5, 6-1, 6-3. UConn won the No.6 singles match by default as there was no Hartford player.
At No.1, Schueler fell to Artur Muller, 6-0, 6-1. Goldstein lost a 6-4, 6-1 match at No.2 to Jeff Cote.
UConn returns to action this weekend at the Brown Invitational, Sept. 15-17.
