Women's Cross Country Set to Open 2006 Season

STORRS, Conn. (September 1, 2006) – The University of Connecticut women’s cross country team kicks off the 2006 season on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State in New Britain, Conn. The race begins at 11 a.m.
The Huskies took first place at the invitational last season. Senior Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, Conn.) looks to defend her title from a year ago in which she ran a first place time of 18:21. UConn returns three runners who placed in the top 10 in the meet last year in junior Orlaith Cunningham (Branford, Conn.) who took fourth, sophomore Kate Vaughan (Bethel Park, Pa.) who finished seventh and sophomore Keelan King (Scotia, N.Y.) rounded out the top finishers in ninth place.
UConn looks to another successful season after finishing ninth at the BIG EAST Championships in 2005. The Huskies return four runners who competed at the NCAA Regional in Sullivan, Cunningham, King, and sophomore Rebecca McCollum (Monroe, Conn.).
Other teams competing at the meet will be Hartford, Northeastern, Holy Cross and Southern Connecticut.
