STORRS, Conn. (July 20, 2006) – The University of Connecticut women’s track and field team has been honored for their academic achievements by the United States Track and Field / Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Individually, three members of the team were named to the 2006 USTFCCCA All-Academic team, including senior Jillian Sullivan (Bristol, Conn.), junior Tamara Highsmith (East Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Jessi Foreman (Wayland, Mass.).
The UConn team garnered the All-Academic distinction by having a cumulative grade point average greater than 3.0. The selection of the outstanding teams was based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement. A total of 76 institutions were recognized.
Individuals must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher qualify for the All-Academic Track and Field team. Sullivan, Highsmith and Foreman met those standards with majors of nursing, business and communications sciences, respectively.
“Once again I must applaud the efforts of our young ladies in fulfilling their responsibilities as outstanding student-athletes,” UConn head coach Bill Morgan said. “In addition to coming off our best season in 11 years on the track, it truly has been a most rewarding season. Obviously, my staff (Coaches Clive Terrelonge and Kim McGreevy), academic advisor John Miceli and most importantly the professors who facilitate their learning are to be acknowledged in this process. It’s a great team effort.”
