STORRS, Conn. (July 13, 2006) - Women’s track and field and cross country Head Coach Bill Morgan is excited to announce that Jillian Sullivan (Senior, Bristol, CT) has been named team captain for the 2006 cross country season.
“I am very proud of Jillian and her success within our program,” said Morgan. “Working with Coach McGreevy on a daily basis, Jillian has developed into a mature student-athlete who is prepared to lead this team on and off the course.”
Sullivan is the top returner from last year’s squad, where she led the Huskies throughout the season. Finishing in the top 20 at the BIG EAST Championship last fall, Sullivan placed herself among the best distance runners in the country. She bested that season with an outstanding year on the track, where she shattered her own school record in the steeplechase with a time of 10:31.79. After placing third at the BIG EAST Championship in the steeple, Sullivan went on to the NCAA Regional’s, where she narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
“On a daily basis, Jillian leads by example with her diligent work ethic and unwavering determination to succeed in all endeavors,” said Cross Country coach Kim McGreevy. “We are fortunate to have such a driven student-athlete in this leadership position.”
Sullivan and the Huskies will open the season on September 2 at the Blue Devil Invite in New Britain, Conn.
