JAMAICA, N.Y. (April 17) -- Joey Michaels and Christian Malerba teamed up to win a doubles match but the University of Connecticut men's tennis team lost by a 7-0 score to St. John's on Monday afternoon at The Courts at St. John's. UConn falls to 5-12 on the year with the loss while the Red Storm improves to 11-4.
The Red Storm opened play by taking the doubles point but it was not a clean sweep thanks to Michaels and Malerba coming through in a tiebreaker for an 8-7 win at No. 2. Singles play though saw St. John's win all 12 sets contested. The closest match was at No. 6 where Jeff Klar battled to a 6-3, 7-6 final against Claudio Halim.
The Huskies will wrap up their 2006 season on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to Marist College at 3:30 p.m.
