Highsmith Leads Team After First Day Of ECAC Track Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (March 4, 2006) – Sophomore Tamara Highsmith (East Haven, Conn.) garnered all eight of the University of Connecticut women’s track team points in the first day of the ECAC Championships on Saturday. Highsmith placed second in the pentathlon with 3,708 points.
Freshman Jessica Foreman (Wayland, Mass.) qualified to advance to the second day of competition in both the 60-meter dash and the 200. Foreman took fourth place in the semi-final heat of the 60 with a time of 7.54. Classmate Kara Budd (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) competed in the preliminary heat of 60, finishing tied for sixth with a personal best time of 7.71.
In the 200, freshman Alyssa Evering (Bel Air, Md.) took eighth place with a time of 24.83 and qualified for the second day of competition. Foreman also qualified with a seventh place finish and a time of 24.63.
Freshman Mandela Graves-Fulgham (Shutesbury, Mass.) competed in the 400 preliminaries on Saturday afternoon, taking eighth place. Her time of 56.16 is good enough to advance to the second day of competition.
In the 4x400 relay, the team of Highsmith, Graves-Fulgham, Evering and Jennifer Rogers (Parksville, British Columbia) took fifth place with a time of 3:47.55.
The ECAC Championships will continue on Sunday morning. The first event is slated for 12:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony set for 3:40 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
