Men's Tennis Loses 7-0 at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. (March 29) -- Joey Michaels and Christian Malerba teamed up to win a doubles match, highlighting a 7-0 loss for the University of Connecticut men's tennis team on Wednesday afternoon at Amherst College, the 14th-ranked team in Division III. The Huskies dip to 3-9 on the spring with the loss while the Lord Jeffs up their mark to 7-2.
Amherst captured the doubles point but it was not a clean sweep as Michaels and Malerba claimed an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 position over Jon Godsall and Geoff Schwartz. Singles play saw the Lord Jeffs take all six matches, five of them in straight sets. The tightest match was at No. 5 where Ben Scheuler and Tal Avrahami split 6-3 sets before Avrahami won a super-tiebreaker, 10-7.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they play host to Monmouth at 1:00 p.m.
