Volleyball Signs Two for 2007 Season

STORRS, Conn. (November 14, 2006) - The University of Connecticut volleyball team has signed Rebecca Murray and Lauren Lamberti to National Letters of Intent for the 2007 season, head coach Holly Strauss announced Tuesday.
“We are excited to officially welcome Rebecca, Lauren, and their families into the UConn Volleyball program," Strauss said. "In conjunction with being great volleyball players, both Rebecca and Lauren encompass the strong character we look for in our student-athletes."
"We feel very fortunate that these two players have chosen to attend the University of Connecticut and look forward to the impact they will have on our program."
Murray, a 6’3 middle hitter, is a native of Carmel, Ind. A two-time first team All-North Indianapolis Star Volleyball Honor team selection and first team All-State 2005 pick, she holds the record at Carmel High School in kills with 355 in her junior season. Earning MVP honors in 2005 and 2006 at the Greenfield Central tournament, Murray also achieved honors as a Metropolitan Interscholastic all-conference member for both 2005 and 2006. Murray was named one of the Top 150 recruits for PrepVolleyball.com and cited as PrepVolleyball.com Molten Most Improved first team.
“Rebecca is a warrior. Her work ethic combined with her competitive edge and athletic talents are going to add a strong presence in the middle position next year,” Strauss said.
Lamberti will be joining the UConn Husky squad from Cary, Ill. A two-time all-area selection from the Daily Herald in 2005 and 2006, as a senior Lamberti earned all-conference honors by the Chicago Sun Times and Northwest Herald. A stand-out right-side from Cary Grove High School, she helped guide her team to a 10-0 record and a Fox Valley Conference Championship in 2006. As a member of Sky High volleyball club Lamberti’s team placed 3rd in Open Division at 2004 Junior Nationals, 2nd place in the national division at 2005 junior national championships earning All tournament team honors, and captured the National Championship title in 2006 in the National Division. Earning high honor roll student status throughout her high school years, Lamberti has also been named twice to the PrepVolleyball.com Dream team.
“Berti’s passion for the game, heavy arm swing and love of competition will immediately raise the level of play in our gym. Lauren will be entering her freshmen year with a strong and successful volleyball history,” Strauss said.
“We truly believe that our program found the perfect fit with Rebecca and Lauren. They are true UConn Huskies!”
