STORRS, Conn. (November 12, 2006) - Senior Jillian Sullivan's (Bristol, Conn.) eighth place finish in a time of 21:22 at the NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships qualified her for the NCAA Championships as announced tonight by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee.
She becomes the first UConn woman to qualify for the Championships in 10 years as the last athlete to do so was Danyelle Wood in 1996.
"I am very proud of Jillian's performance," head coach Bill Morgan said. "The hard work that she and Coach McGreevy put in has paid off and she will be an excellent representative for the University of Connecticut."
"I'm very excited about how Jillian performed and the way she has worked to achieve the success that she has," distance coach Kim McGreevy said. "She will race against the best runners in the country and prove that she belongs with the nation's elite. For her to end her cross country career at UConn in this manner is a testament to her work ethic and what a great athlete she is."
The NCAA Championships will be Monday, November 20, in Terre Haute, Ind.
