Men's Tennis Opens Play at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (October 6, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team opened play at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday, October 6, in Lewisburg, Pa. in round robin play against University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Quinnipiac and Bucknell.
In flight four, junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) took down Mike Racioppo of Quinnipiac 4-6, 7-5 (10-4). Junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) defeated Bucknell's Dan Bednarek 7-5, 4-6 (10-7) while junior Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Henry Hollowell of UMBC. Freshman Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) won a 6-3, 6-4 match in flight eight over UMBC's Victor Ng.
Sophomore Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) dropped an 0-6, 1-6 match to Irfan Shamasdin from UMBC in flight one while freshman Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) lost to Bucknell's Jon Brenner 4-6, 1-6. In flight seven, sophomore Jeff Klar (Marietta, Ga.) fell to Charlie Feldman of Quinnipiac 6-4, 0-6 (6-10).
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Bucknell Invitational.
