Men's Tennis Wins 6-1 Over Salve Regina

STORRS, Conn. (October 4, 2006) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated Salve Regina, 6-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Storrs, Conn.
Sophomore Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) won at No.2 singles 6-1, 6-1 over McAusher while freshman Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Lago at No.3. Junior Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) defeated Martin at No.4 6-1, 6-1 with junior Nate Carvalho (Freetown, Mass.) winning a 6-1, 6-1 match over Collins at No.5. Junior Aaron Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) rounded out the singles winners at No.6 as he won 6-2, 6-1 over Masso.
In doubles play, Michaels got his second win of the day when he teamed up with Malerba at No.2 for an 8-2 win over McAusher/Collins. Carvalho and senior Joel Gamoran (Mercer Island, Wash.) secured the doubles point for the Huskies at No.3 by winning 8-2 over Martin/Masso.
Schueler lost at No.1 to Norton 6-4, 6-4 while at No.1 doubles, Schueler and Goldstein fell to Salve Regina's Norton/Lago, 8-6.
UConn will next compete at the Bucknell Invite this weekend, Oct. 6-8.
