Sullivan Takes Fourth at BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (October 27, 2006) - Led by senior Jillian Sullivan's (Bristol, Conn.) fourth place finish in a time of 20:48, the University of Connecticut women's cross country team took ninth place at the BIG EAST Championships held in Franklin Park on Friday, October 27, 2006.
Sullivan finishing in fourth marks the highest individual finish in program history at the BIG EAST Championships.
"Jillian ran an absolutely outstanding race today," distance coach Kim McGreevy said. "She beat some of the best athletes in the country, proving she is one of the best in the country. She took risks and I couldn't be more proud of an athlete that races to win like that."
The next Husky finisher was junior Orlaith Cunningham (Branford, Conn.) who took 62nd (22:55) with sophomore Rebecca McCollum (Monroe, Conn.) not far behind in 66th in a time of 23:01. Sophomore Kate Vaughan (Bethel Park, Pa.) took 63rd (23:06), while freshman Nicki Junod (Cicero, N.Y.) finished 73rd with a time of 23:32.. Freshmen Sara Leslie (Portland, Conn.) and Megan Harrington (Chatham, N.Y.) rounded out the final UConn finishers in 79th (23:49) and 84th (24:01) places, respectively.
Providence won the meet with 39 points. Villanova's Frances Koons won the race in 20:58.
The Huskies return to action at the NCAA Regionals on November 11, in the Bronx, N.Y.
