Men's Tennis Topped by Villanova

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 3, 2005) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team continued to struggle against BIG EAST opponents as the Huskies were topped 7-0 by Villanova on Sunday at the East Hartford Racquet Club. UConn is now 3-5 this spring and 0-2 against conference opponents.
Villanova defeated Connecticut in the six singles matches and then swept through the doubles play. Senior Sam Sutherland (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) lost two tough sets at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Sutherland fell to Dimitri Chimerakis, 7-5, 6-4, while Malerba was defeated 7-6 (5), 6-4 by Angel Rubio.
Connecticut will next travel to Worcester, Mass., to face Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 6.
