Huskies Defeat New Hampshire, 5-2

STORRS, Conn. (April 13, 2005) – The University of Connecticut men’s tennis team defeated New Hampshire 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Huskies to 5-8 this spring (0-3 vs. BIG EAST teams).
UConn pulled out two three-set singles victories in the win. Junior Sho Sato (Tokyo, Japan), at No. 2, topped Brett Teolis, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, while freshman Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) also rallied to take the third set, defeating Brady Bartlett, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
Senior Sam Sutherland (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Michael Bobitski (Fort Myers, Fla.) registered the other two singles wins at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively. Sutherland edged Jay Friedman, 6-4, 7-6, and Bobitski cruised past Alec Jaslow, 6-3, 6-0.
The Huskies also took two of three doubles matches for the point. The duo of juniors Matt Stinson (Orinda, Calif.) and Sato won the No. 1 match, 8-2, over Sherrill and Friedman. Senior Joe Mercuri (Wallingford, Conn.) and Bobitski then teamed up to beat Morressey and Prather 8-3 at No. 3.
