PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 31) -- The University of Connecticut’s football game at Pittsburgh has been selected as the BIG EAST Game of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The game will kickoff at 12 noon from Heinz Field and air in syndication via ESPN Regional. The contest will be available locally on WTXX, TV-20 in Hartford.
It is UConn’s first ever appearance as the BIG EAST Game of the Week in a league game. The Huskies had previously had three non-conference games broadcast as the BIG EAST’s featured Game of the Week, 2001 and 2003 losses at Virginia Tech and a 40-3 win over Army on Sept. 25, 2004 at Rentschler Field. Veterans Dave Sims (play-by-play) and John Congemi (color) will have the call.
The game will be UConn’s (4-3, 1-2 BIG EAST) first-ever against the Panthers (4-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) at Heinz Field. A year ago, UConn earned its first ever BIG EAST win by beating Pitt, 29-17, at Rentschler Field on Sept. 30 in a game nationally televised by ESPN2.
Before facing Pitt, the Huskies will play No. 16 West Virginia (6-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) on Wednesday night, Nov. 2, in Morgantown. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
