Swimming and Diving Emerges Victorious at Fordham

STORRS, Conn. (October 21, 2005) - The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both defeated Fordham Friday night at the Colonel Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center in Bronx, N.Y. The men’s team won with a score of 175.5-122.5, while the women’s team was victorious with a count of 214-87.
The men’s team was led by Junior Tristan Jones (Wanniassa, Australia). Jones won the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and was part of the winning 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. Sophomore Michael Brocki (Westhampton, N.Y.) added two individual wins for the men in the 500 and 1000 freestyle. Brocki was also part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team. Sophomore Sean Hannan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.04.
Freshman Katie DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) came out on top with three wins for the women’s team in the 1000 freestyle and the 100 and 200 butterfly. Sophomores Emily Karel (Bethesda, Md.) and Lindsay Rogers (Gaithersburg, Md.) also picked up wins for the Huskies. Karel took the 100 and 200 freestyle, while Rogers controlled the breaststroke taking both the 100 and 200. Freshman Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.) prevailed in both the one and three meter diving events.
The men’s and women’s Swimming and Diving Teams will take part in the annual Alumni meet on Saturday, October 22, beginning at 11:00 a.m. They will return to action on Saturday, October 29, when they travel to Villanova. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
