Volleyball Defeats Northeastern, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 11) - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated Northeastern, 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-21) on Tuesday evening in Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies improve to 10-8 on the season with the win.
UConn was led offensively by senior Megan Crawley (Georgetown, Texas), who had 10 kills. She also had seven digs and three block assists in the UConn victory. Fellow senior Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) had four kills and 39 assists while picking up 15 digs in the win. Freshman Sarah Singer (Waukesha, Wisc.) had eight kills in the match. She also played a key roll in the Huskies 20-5 run to close out the second game, serving seven points in that span.
Senior Heather Ashley (Smithsburg, Md.) also had eight kills in just two games played in the match. In the third game of the match, with the score tied at 16 all, junior Kaity Craig (Terryville, Conn.) gave UConn a lead they would not relinquish on a service ace. She also served the next three points and picked up a kill in that span to help put the Huskies up 19-17. Sophomore Brittany Stewart (Dolton, Ill.) had six kills in the match and picked up 15 digs in the win.
Northeastern was led by Brandie Genibrel and Lauren DeTurk, who each had six kills in the match. Genibrel also picked up 15 digs. Larissa Adomat had four kills for Northeastern.
UConn is next in action on Friday, Oct. 14 at St. John's. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
