STORRS, Conn. (October 11, 2005) - The University of Connecticut men’s soccer team is firmly rooted in the top 10 in all four major polls for just the second time this season. Coming in at No. 6 in Tuesday’s NSCAA poll, the Huskies hold a five-game win streak to their credit after a stunning week of conference action. UConn overpowered Providence and Notre Dame, handing the Friars their first loss of the season before taking down the Irish for the first time in South Bend, Ind., since 2000.
In addition to the top 10 nod from the coaches’ poll, the Huskies are sitting in fifth place in the Soccer America poll, sixth according to College Soccer News and at No. 7 by the Soccer Times.
Earlier this season, the Huskies achieved top five achievements across the board. After starting the year off with four consecutive wins, the Huskies earned the No. 1 spot according to the Soccer America poll released September 13, while also coming in at No. 5 (NSCAA and Soccer Times) and No. 3 (College Soccer News). The top ranking was the first for UConn Soccer since the start of the 2001 season following the national championship win the year before.
The Huskies return to action Saturday night at 7:00 when they welcome conference rival Pittsburgh to Morrone Stadium. Saturday’s game will mark 2005 High School Night, as the Huskies welcome high school teams from around the state. All Connecticut girl’s and boy’s high school teams who order their tickets in advance in groups of 25 or more will receive a special rate of only $2.00 per ticket.
