UConn Volleyball Slams New Hampshire, 3-0

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut (1-3) blanked the University of New Hampshire (1-3) in non-conference women’s volleyball action, 3-0 Tuesday evening in the Huskies’ 2004 home opener at Gampel Pavilion.
Game one was hard fought, with UConn just edging the Wildcats 30-25, but the Huskies went on to dominate games two and three, 30-19 and 30-18 to pick up their first win of the season.
Senior captain Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, Calif.) headed up the attack for UConn with 16 kills, two service aces and nine digs while senior captain Brittany Conover (Bargersville, Ind.) followed with 11 kills and a career best five service aces. Heather Ashley (Smithsburg, Md.) chipped in 10 kills, one ace and a team-best 12 digs. Junior setter Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) totaled 44 assists and six digs to help the Huskies to victory.
Natasha Otte led UNH with eight kills and Jen Williams posted a team-high 10 digs. Setters Katie Weidner and Holly Young totaled 16 and 13 assists, respectively.
UConn next hosts the Connecticut Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11. On Friday, the first match will be Long Island vs. Stony Brook at 10:00 a.m. followed by UConn vs. Holy Cross at 12:00 p.m., Stony Brook vs. Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m and UConn vs. Long Island at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s matches will be Holy Cross vs. Long Island at 12:00 p.m. and UConn vs. Stony Brook at 2:00 p.m.
