UConn Volleyball Drops Two at the
Deacon Invitational
Huskies fall to South Carolina, 3-1 and to Wake Forest, 3-0

Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team dropped both of its matches at Wake Forest’s Deacon Invitational on Saturday as the Huskies fell 3-1 to South Carolina and 3-0 to Wake Forest.
In the first match of the day, UConn took the third game against the Gamecocks, 30-25, but South Carolina came away with games one, two and four by the scores of 30-27, 30-24 and 30-24 to earn the victory.
Senior captain Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, Calif.) led the Huskies with 12 kills and 16 digs while junior Heather Ashley (Smithsburg, Md.) followed with 10 kills and eight digs. Junior setter Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) contributed 42 assists and eight digs despite the loss.
Shonda Cole totaled a match-high 22 digs for South Carolina and Lynae Vanden Hull aided the attack with 14 kills. Katelyn Panzau added 37 helpers and 13 digs for the Gamecocks.
Connecticut was swept by Wake Forest 30-21, 30-19, 30-25 in its second match of the day. Hadenfeldt and sophomore Kaity Craig (Terryville, Conn.) each posted 10 kills for the Huskies and Neelands chipped in 21 assists and 11 digs.
Christy Williams led the Demon Deacons with 11 kills, Vallerie Rydberg and Kim Stern registered 10 kills apiece and Erin Borhart had 27 assists and 12 digs.
Connecticut returns home on Tuesday, September 7 to open the 2004 home season against the University of New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m.
