Parkosewich Takes Fifth in the Discus at NCAA East Regional

GAINESVILLE, FL (May 28) - Senior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, Conn.) earned points at the NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla. by placing fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 51.31 meters (168-4). With the top five athletes in each event qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, Parkosewich has earned a spot and will be looking to garner her first All-American title.
Parkosewich had also qualified to compete in the hammer throw at the meet, and placed 15th in the event.
UConn junior April Garner (Temple Hills, Md.) competed in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, and just barely missed a berth in the finals. Nine runners advanced, while Garner placed 11th with a time of 13.65. The ninth-best time was just 0.07 seconds better than Garner's.
The Huskies will compete in one more event at the regionals, as senior and three-time All-American Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, N.J.) is scheduled to take part in the high jump at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29.
