Mullen and Garner Take Wins at Miami Invitational

CORAL GABLES, FL (March 20) - Senior three-time All-American Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, N.J.) and junior April Garner (Temple Hills, Md.) earned wins in their respective events at the Miami Invitational, leading the way for many successful finishes for the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team at the meet.
Mullen took first in the high jump at the Huskies’ first outdoor meet of the season, recording a mark of 1.83 meters (6-0). The jump is the third-best all time at UConn in outdoor track, and a career-high for Mullen outdoors.
Garner turned in a strong first-place performance in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.19, which is the fourth-best performance all-time at UConn in outdoor track. Garner also holds the second all-time best mark with a time of 13.92.
Freshman Daisy VanRavenswaay (Canfield, Ont.) was solid in her first collegiate outdoor meet, taking second in the javelin, third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Senior Amy Parkosewich (Bethlehem, Conn.) took a second-place finish in the discus and a sixth-place finish in the shot put.
Other strong performances for UConn were turned in by senior Allison McCabe (Reading, Mass.) who took third in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:38.70, and Marlene Priest (South Dennis, Mass.) who took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, March 27 when they travel to the Army Invitational in West Point, N.Y.
