Boston College Rallies Past Volleyball, 3-2

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Oct. 2) -- The University of Connecticut (7-6, 0-0 BE) women’s volleyball team just narrowly missed a victory over Boston College on Saturday in the championship match of the BIG EAST Challenge, hosted by Rutgers University. The Eagles defeated the Huskies, 3-2, in a five-game battle. UConn won games one and two by the scores of 30-21 and 30-23, but fell in games three, four and five, 32-30, 30-28 and 15-7.
Senior tri-captain and All-Tournament team selection Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, Calif.) led Connecticut with 21 kills and 13 digs. Junior tri-captain Megan Crawley (Georgetown, Texas) followed with 17 kills and freshman Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added 13 kills and managed a .500 hitting percentage, helping to earn her a spot on the All-Tournament squad. Freshman Brittany Stewart (Dolton, Ill.) tallied a team-best 17 digs and junior Heather Ashley (Smithsburg, Md.) posted 11 kills and 10 digs. Junior setter Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) totaled 63 assists and 14 digs despite the loss.
Dorota Niemczewska recorded a match-high 22 kills for Boston College, while teammate Katie Andersen registered 14 kills and 16 digs, to earn her Tournament MVP honors. All-Tournament team members Verena Rost and Allison Anderson chipped in 59 assists and 24 digs, respectively.
UConn returns home on Wednesday, October 6, and will play host to Quinnipiac with the match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
