Volleyball Rallies Past Rhode Island, 3-2

KINGSTON, R.I. (Oct. 19) -- Senior tri-captain Jamie Hadenfeldt (Benicia, Calif.) recorded a season-high 25 kills along with 17 digs as the University of Connecticut (12-6) women’s volleyball team rallied from a two game deficit to defeat the University of Rhode Island, 3-2.
The Huskies fell in games one and two by the scores of 30-20 and 30-19, only to mount a comeback, winning games three, four and five by the scores of 30-22, 30-24 and 15-13.
Junior setter Jenny Neelands (Gainesville, Fla.) helped UConn to victory with 41 assists, 13 digs and eight blocks, while classmate tri-captain Megan Crawley (Georgetown, Texas) tallied 16 kills, five blocks and hit an impressive .519 (16-2-27) for the match. Defensively for the Huskies, freshman Julie Pickard (Hillsborough, N.C.) led the squad with 25 digs.
Kaleena Miller totaled a team-best 20 kills for the Rams along with 12 digs. Teammates Joanna Mitchell and Chelsea Wisz each contributed 13 kills and 16 digs, while Wisz also added 48 assists. URI drops to 8-11 on the season with the loss.
The Huskies return home this weekend for 2:00 p.m. matches against BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Rutgers on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 24.
